Cisco Quantum Lab, located in Santa Monica Media Park.
Engineering quantum systems is opening new horizons for information processing, in communication, cryptography, computing, and sensing. This can be future quantum computers breaking legacy public-key cryptography, or quantum cryptography systems offering a stronger level of security. Quantum technologies are among Cisco’s recent investments in emerging technologies to shape the future of the Internet.
We are happy to announce that we are opening a research lab in the city of Santa Monica, California, dedicated to research in quantum technologies, optics, and photonics. Cisco Quantum Lab, part of Cisco Research, develops technologies in the areas of quantum networking and security. Quantum networking and security, in contrast to quantum computing, open near-term commercial markets.
Our new facility will host scientists and engineers conducting research and developing software and hardware prototypes. We will collaborate closely with networking, optics, and photonics engineers in Cisco’s business units to bring our research into the product development phase. Our internal research is complemented by joint projects with university labs on technologies that require long-term development, including regional and national Quantum Internet testbeds.
